Rachel

Hello! I'm Rachel and I'm a cake decorator and photographer here at Sweet Heather Anne. My love for food and baking began while watching Food Network every day with my grandma and helping my mom in the kitchen. However, it wasn't until college that I fully realized the extent of that love. I'd often cook and bake as a way to de-stress from the craziness of school and I found joy in sharing my baking experiments with others. All I know about baking I owe to cooking shows, the Internet, and lots of trial and error.

I've always been a creative, but I graduated with a Materials Science and Engineering degree from University of Michigan in 2015. I moved all over the midwest and did the corporate engineering life for a while, only to find that it really wasn't for me. Switching gears completely, I started working as a barista at a specialty coffee shop. I then moved to Ypsilanti and had the privilege of getting the decorating and delivery internship here at Sweet Heather Anne in 2017. I learned so much about cake decorating through the internship and am so glad to now be a part of this talented team of ladies! You'll often find me painting things gold and hunched over a table for hours making sugar flowers.

When I'm not at the bakery, I do marketing at a tech startup called SpellBound, take photos for my photography business (Rachel Liu Photography), bake and host workshops out of my home for local causes (Milk + Honey), and occasionally work at Stovetop Coffee Roasters. In my free time, I enjoy gardening, pottery, reading, rock climbing, cooking with my husband, and being a part of our local church community.
