Our Favorite Painted Buttercream Cakes (and why this technique is our favorite, too!)
Painting with buttercream has become one of the techniques our bakery is known for and honestly, it’s one of my favorite ways to decorate a cake. There is something freeing about using a full cake as a canvas and putting together blobs of buttercream to create something beautiful. No perfect fondant. No measuring. Just getting lost in the moment of creating.
If this sounds like something you would enjoy, click here for the full details of what’s included in our Painting with Buttercream Online Course. 💛 It’s on SALE for $57 (normally $127) until October 31!
Here are a few of my favorite cakes that we’ve made with this technique over the years. Of course, our viral painted buttercream table runner cake made the cut.

MAKING IT YOUR OWN
Even in this ever changing landscape of cake trends, I think that buttercream painting is just getting started. We’ve had fun adapting the technique for long table runner cakes and vintage piped cakes and I can see it as a great way to decorate a sculpted dome. We’re living in the buttercream revolution and I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
