My Favorite Part About Hosting In-Person Workshops in our Ann Arbor Studio

We had the pleasure of hosting 12 cake designers from all over the US + Canada at our Wedding Intensive in March. I left the weekend feeling energized and excited about the cake community and our small role in bringing together so many cake enthusiasts in one place.

CREATING A SPACE FOR CAKE DESIGN COLLABORATION

The group varied from hobbyist bakers to veterans in the industry, and everyone had something to share. We talked about everything from the pros and cons of a brick and mortar bakery to the sourcing of specific tools. We gathered for meals and shared stories about lessons we’d learned the hard way and techniques we were excited to try.

It was a wonderful environment for creativity, and the students did incredible work! Check out a sampling of their beautiful cakes photographed by Cat Carty Buswell

My biggest takeaway from the two-day workshop was that we need more opportunities to talk to other cake designers in person. I think the attendees learned just as much from the other students as they did from us. 💛

HOW IN-PERSON WORKSHOPS INSPIRE CREATIVITY

Many of the attendees mentioned how refreshing it was to be around other creative professionals who understand the joy of finally perfecting a piping technique or the satisfaction of booking a wedding cake that you have been dreaming of creating all year. We're often working alone in our studios, so these moments of community become even more precious.

In-person workshops are a rare opportunity to step away from our daily routines and immerse ourselves in a creative environment with no other goal than to learn and improve. We can ask questions in real-time, get immediate feedback on techniques, and witness firsthand how other designers approach their craft. These interactions spark innovation in ways that simply can't be replicated through virtual meetings or social media.

UPCOMING WORKSHOP OPPORTUNITIES

The successful workshop (and requests from other cake designers) inspired us to add more dates for November. You can learn more about the 2-Day Wedding Cake Workshop and sign-up here! Advanced registration is required and tickets are limited.

If you are looking for more in-person workshops, I had an amazing time learning from Lila Cake Shop at her California Cake Studio and Petite Pivoine Cakes at Lima Cakes Academy. I’m constantly inspired by the talent in this industry!
