Chrissy

Hi! I’m Chrissy, and I’m a cake designer at Sweet Heather Anne. That means dreaming up ways to incorporate inspiration into the form of cake, obsessively color-matching paint swatches, and spending countless hours sculpting and dusting individually wired petals to create lifelike sugar flowers. I’m not just here to make the cake beautiful, though. I’ve had a sweet tooth and a particular palate from a young age, which I’ve developed over the years to make sure each cake flavor is perfectly balanced. Growing up, my mother always baked my birthday cakes from scratch, and my grandmothers did the same. I never tolerated store bought frosting and would scrape it off in disgust at school events and parties. This explains my love of Swiss meringue buttercream, as it is perfectly silky and not too sweet.

My path to the pastry arts hasn’t been a straightforward one, though. I studied fine art at the University of Michigan with a focus in painting and printmaking. After college I worked as a graphic designer for a few years before coming to the conclusion that I did not want to spend my days on a computer. I craved a physical outlet for my creativity, and I was very fortunate to get an introduction to the world of cake artistry at Sweet Heather Anne. After a seven year interlude of living and working in Seattle at Honey Crumb Cake Studio, I have rejoined the team. I am so excited to have returned to my roots and to be a part of such a special team of hard-working creatives.

When not at the bakery, I am working on my personal art practice, running, or foraging for delectable wild mushrooms with my husband, Matthew, and our long-haired dachshund Pretzel.
